Guide
For MICA's PGDM/PGDM-C route, CAT/XAT/GMAT and MICAT are complementary filters, not alternatives. MICA's current admissions information says applicants need a valid CAT/XAT/GMAT score and must also take MICAT; shortlisted candidates then move to Group Exercise and Personal Interview.
Understand the filtering logic
MICAT is designed to test qualities conventional aptitude scores do not capture. The published process has used a Psychometric section as a qualifier, then considers national-test performance and MICAT aptitude/descriptive performance before GE-PI. MICA also conducts MICAT twice and considers the better score, subject to the current cycle's detailed guide.
Why a high CAT/XAT score is not enough
A strong national-test percentile can get past one filter but cannot compensate for failing a qualifying MICAT component. Prepare Psychometric honestly/consistently, practise descriptive writing under time, and learn the Divergent/Convergent Thinking format instead of assuming CAT LR covers it.
Why MICAT alone is not enough for PGDM/PGDM-C
The reverse is also true: the national test is mandatory for these programmes. Keep CAT/XAT/GMAT preparation alive rather than treating MICAT as a substitute. Your application calendar therefore needs both exam streams and the later GE-PI phase.
How to allocate preparation
Once CAT/XAT fundamentals are stable, spend incremental time on the MICA-specific layer. Use short creative/psychometric/descriptive sessions during the week and one integrated MICAT-style practice each weekend. The objective is not to become “creative” in 30 days; it is to demonstrate clear thinking, expression, consistency and fit without failing a section you never practised.
Make one administrative checklist
For MICA Selection Process: CAT/XAT/GMAT, MICAT, GE & PI, keep a single row per action: official form, separate institute application, payment proof, document requirement, next deadline and current status. Verify the requirement on the official portal before payment.
This sounds basic, but admissions often fail administratively rather than academically: a student writes the right exam but misses the programme form, sends the wrong attempt, or discovers a programme-specific eligibility condition too late. Treat the checklist as part of the admission strategy.
