Guide

For 90 percentile, Current 2026 analyst estimates conflict materially, so there is no responsible single official marks target. NTA declares the official result/percentile; coaching and portal tables are only planning aids.

One current analysis places roughly 299 around 99.5 percentile, 291.5 around 99 and 271 around 95, while other 2026 sources publish broader bands. That disagreement is precisely why OYM should not print “X marks = Y percentile” as a fact.

What you can control instead

CMAT has 100 questions worth 400 marks: 20 each in Quant & DI, LR, Language, General Awareness, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship. With +4/−1 marking, one careless wrong answer is a five-mark swing relative to getting the question correct. Track net marks, not only attempts.

Build a score buffer across five sections

A CAT-heavy student may be strong in aptitude but underprepared in GA and Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Because each section carries the same number of questions, leaving those two areas weak creates a large ceiling. Use compact daily revision for knowledge sections while keeping timed aptitude practice.

How to use a mock score

After each mock, separate loss into four buckets: concept gap, knowledge gap, negative mark, and time/selection loss. Fix the bucket that can return the most net marks in the next seven days. If you are already near your target band, reduce volatility: a consistent 290-level performance is more useful than one 310 followed by a 250.

For admission decisions, use the percentile on the official scorecard and the latest institute cutoff/category rules. Raw-score estimates are preparation context, not an admission promise.

Use the number as a decision band

Do not let one cutoff or percentile estimate become the whole plan. Write three outcomes for CMAT 90 Percentile Score Target: `above target`, `near target`, and `below target`. Above target means verify section/profile requirements and stop chasing extra marks for ego. Near target means protect accuracy and build a small buffer. Below target means identify the one section or question family capable of adding the next realistic block of marks.

The number is useful only if it changes your shortlist or practice. If two sources disagree, prefer the official scorecard/college notice and treat analyst estimates as ranges, not facts.
