What Percentile Can 280 Marks Get in CMAT?

A 280-mark CMAT score should not be converted with a single unofficial table. NTA publishes your result/percentile, while third-party 2026 estimates disagree materially on the raw-score mapping. A reasonable interpretation is that 280 sits around the high-90s/upper percentile zone depending on source; use it as a planning signal, not an official percentile.

Why the estimates disagree

CMAT is a 400-mark paper with +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong answer. Small changes in correct/wrong combinations can move the score quickly, and coaching portals use different candidate samples and difficulty assumptions. For example, one current analysis places roughly 299 around 99.5 percentile and 291.5 around 99, while other tables use wider bands. That is too much disagreement to publish “280 = X.XX percentile” as fact.

Read the score through section balance

The five areas—Quant & DI, Logical Reasoning, Language, General Awareness, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship—carry 20 questions each. A 280-level total built with two very weak knowledge sections can be less robust than the same total with balanced coverage, because every section offers marks at equal nominal weight.

What to do with a 280 mock score

First calculate how many marks were lost to negatives: five avoidable wrong answers cost five marks *and* replace the opportunity for a correct +4. Second, count direct questions you never reached. Third, separate knowledge gaps (GA/I&E) from aptitude mistakes; they need different repair methods. If the score is already near your college target, use mocks to make it repeatable rather than chasing a single converted percentile.

For admissions, use the percentile on the official CMAT scorecard and the current institute cutoff—not an internet raw-score converter—as the final decision input.

A focused practice block for What Percentile Can 280 Marks Get in ?

Start with 10 minutes of direct questions or recall, then 15 minutes under the exam's real pace, and finish with 5 minutes of review. For this page, the skill you are actually trying to stabilise is: Standard MBA quant/DI breadth with +4/-1 marking.. Use short timed blocks, review the exact cause of each miss, then put the skill back inside a full exam mock.

Do not write “silly mistake” after review. Use one of four labels: `did not know`, `knew but chose a slow method`, `misread/overthought`, or `ran out of time`. The most common traps here are over-investing in one question, carrying cat pacing into a different format, and reviewing only the answer rather than the process.

Readiness test: The section is ready when your timing and accuracy stay stable in two separate timed sessions. Once that happens twice, reduce isolated practice and spend more time on mixed/full-paper work.
