XAT 2027 Eligibility

XAT eligibility is unusually broad: the important rule is whether you hold a recognised bachelor's degree of at least three years' duration or equivalent, or are completing the final year within the current cycle's permitted timeline. XAT does not impose the kind of stream-specific restriction students sometimes assume from engineering-heavy MBA exams.

Guide

XAT eligibility is unusually broad: the important rule is whether you hold a recognised bachelor's degree of at least three years' duration or equivalent, or are completing the final year within the current cycle's permitted timeline. XAT does not impose the kind of stream-specific restriction students sometimes assume from engineering-heavy MBA exams.

Degree and final-year status

Use the current XAT/XLRI registration instructions as the final authority for the exact completion-date requirement. If you are still in final year, keep your expected result/provisional-certificate timeline in mind because institutes can ask for proof later even though you were allowed to write the test.

Age and number of attempts

XAT does not work like an age-limited government recruitment exam. The practical constraint is not your age but whether your target MBA programme accepts your academic status and XAT score. Similarly, there is no sensible preparation reason to treat a repeat attempt as disqualifying; many candidates write XAT after work experience or after an earlier CAT/XAT cycle.

Exam eligibility is not programme eligibility

Being eligible to take XAT does not automatically make you eligible for every XAT-accepting MBA/PGDM. XLRI programmes and other institutes can set their own graduation marks, work-experience or programme-specific conditions. Check the exact programme before paying a separate application fee.

Before you register

Keep degree/final-year details, identity information, photo/signature and academic records ready. Use the same name format as your official documents. If you are applying to XLRI programmes through the XAT form, remember that selecting those programmes is an additional step and carries the current per-programme fee.

The safe sequence is exam eligibility → programme eligibility → XAT registration → separate college applications where required. That prevents the frustrating situation of earning a valid XAT score and later discovering that the programme you wanted followed a different eligibility rule.

A focused practice block for 2027 Eligibility

Start with 10 minutes of direct questions or recall, then 15 minutes under the exam's real pace, and finish with 5 minutes of review. For this page, the skill you are actually trying to stabilise is: RC, critical/analytical reasoning, vocabulary/grammar, para-based reasoning; can include unusual passages/poems/cartoons.. Keep CAT RC base, then add vocabulary/grammar/contextual verbal and XAT-style critical reasoning. Do not overfit to CAT-only VA types.

Do not write “silly mistake” after review. Use one of four labels: `did not know`, `knew but chose a slow method`, `misread/overthought`, or `ran out of time`. The most common traps here are overusing cat elimination rules on grammar/vocab; spending too long on unusual rc; treating every verbal question as inferential.

Readiness test: Complete a timed XAT VALR section with stable accuracy and no single RC/question consuming disproportionate time. Once that happens twice, reduce isolated practice and spend more time on mixed/full-paper work.
