Guide
2 per slot in CAT 2023, 0 in CAT 2024, then 2 per slot again in CAT 2025. Prepare it, but never assume fixed weightage. This page is therefore about a repeatable reasoning process, not a list of English rules.
What the skill actually involves
You need to handle Opening sentence, mandatory pairs, pronoun/reference chains, chronology, cause-effect, and general-to-specific flow, closing sentence. In CAT, the difficult part is often not understanding every sentence; it is deciding what the passage or paragraph supports strongly enough to make one option better than the others.
Use this solving framework
Find sentences that cannot open; build strong pairs; track pronouns/articles; create local sequence before full order; validate whole paragraph coherence.
Do not rush to options before you know what job the question is asking you to perform. For RC, separate main idea from example, inference from possibility and author's view from a view the author merely describes. For VA, identify paragraph logic before trying to “feel” the right order.
The traps that cost marks
A strong review is not “why was option B correct?” It is “what exactly made A, C and D wrong?” That turns one question into reusable pattern recognition.
A short drill you can do today
Four original sentences: identify opener, one mandatory pair, and closer; repair a broken paragraph order. Do the drill without a timer first. Then repeat a similar exercise under time pressure and compare whether speed made you use weaker evidence.
How to build the skill over a week
Use small daily exposure rather than one giant weekend session. For RC-type skills, one passage plus deep option review is more valuable than three passages checked casually. For VA-type skills, do a mixed set across formats so that you learn to recognise the structure before the label.
Mastery checkpoint: Can explain at least two adjacency links in chosen order rather than guessing a sequence.
When you hit the checkpoint, keep the skill alive through sectionals and mocks. The goal is not to memorise a strategy paragraph; it is to make the reasoning habits automatic enough that they survive a difficult passage or unfamiliar topic.

Why On Your Mocks?
A mock score tells you what happened. OYM helps you understand what went wrong and what to work on next.
