CAT 2026 Official Mock: Do Not Use It to Predict Difficulty—Use It to Learn the Interface

When the official CAT mock appears, aspirants make one predictable mistake.

They attempt it and immediately ask:

> “Is CAT 2026 going to be this easy?”

That is not what the official mock is for.

Its biggest value is interface familiarity.

What the official CAT mock can teach you

The real value is learning the mechanics that you do not want to discover on 29 November:

  • how the question palette looks
  • how answered/unanswered/review states appear
  • where the timer sits
  • how section transitions work
  • how MCQs and non-MCQs/TITA are entered
  • how the on-screen calculator behaves
  • how scrolling works
  • how the test responds when you mark a question for review

    These are small things.

On exam day, small unfamiliar things consume attention that should be going into the paper.

What it cannot reliably tell you

Do not use the official mock to predict:

    • actual CAT 2026 difficulty
    • expected percentile
    • number of good attempts
    • exact section-level question mix
    • whether QA will be easier/harder than your coaching mocks

Official sample/mock questions are primarily an interface and format aid.

The actual exam can feel very different.

      Use it twice

A useful protocol is Timed + Exploratory.

      Attempt 1: timed

      Take it seriously.

      Use:

      • the real section order
      • no pauses
      • normal rough work
      • your usual strategy

This shows whether the unfamiliar interface changes your behaviour.

        Do not overinterpret the score.

        Attempt 2: exploratory

        Now forget score.

Click everything you are permitted to use.

        Check:

        • mark for review
        • clear response
        • question palette
        • calculator
        • TITA input
        • scrolling
        • section instructions

You want the interface to become boring.

          Boring is good.

          Practise the question palette

Aspirants sometimes lose questions simply because navigation is sloppy.

During the official mock, practise three states:

          Answered

You are satisfied enough to leave it.

          Marked for review

You want to return if time permits.

          Unanswered / skipped

You consciously decided not to spend time now.

Do not use “review” as a graveyard containing 12 questions.

A review mark is useful only if you have a realistic reason to revisit.

          Test your calculator habits

          Open the on-screen calculator.

Use it on a few calculations.

          Ask:
